Handing over the torch

After a wonderful year as Lasseters Easter in the Alice’s Event Communications Officer, Nic Learmonth hands over the torch and welcomes Andrew Ballestrin as onboard as CARR’s new LEITA Event Communications Officer.

Alice Springs-based Kiwi mountain biking writer Nic Learmonth has been running the Central Australian Rough Riders mountain bike club’s Lasseters Easter in the Alice event website and social media since she set it up in October 2013.

The Lasseters Easter in the Alice is CARR’s biggest and fastest-growing event, and last year attracted riders from all over the Northern Territory and from around Australia.

Over the past 12 months, Nic has built LEITA’s event website, liaised with event director John Pyper and second-in-command Andrew Ballestrin, co-ordinated with LEITA’s sponsors and local photographers, and generated all the website’s core content (including over 60 news posts).

Nic says she has ‘lost count’ of the number of social media posts she has generated for the LEITA’s associated profiles on Facebook and Twitter.

Nic said: ‘It’s been a fun but very busy 12 months.

‘CARR has a relaxed and friendly culture and a signature casual vibe at its club events, and we have a wonderful group of club members and volunteers who work very hard to make CARR what it is and to support the mountain biking scene here in Alice Springs.

‘So it was wonderful to be able to do my part to contribute to CARR and the Lasseters Easter in the Alice by running the event website.’

Nic welcomes LEITA’s second-in-command Andrew Ballestrin, who is also CARR vice president, as the new Lasseters Easter in the Alce website editor.

Nic said: ‘As “second-in-command” Andrew has been an integral part of the Lasseters Easter in the Alice event. Andrew and I have worked together very closely over the past year, and he brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for LEITA to the website .

‘Andrew is full of enthusiasm for Lassesters Easter in the Alice and for mountain biking in Alice Springs generally. I can’t think of a better person to look after LEITA’s online profile,’ said Nic.
